Why Use Solar Energy?
Our planet has never been under so much pressure and we should all try and do our best to conserve its valuable resources. With domestic properties accounting for more than a quarter of the UK’s carbon emissions, having a solar energy system installed will go a long way towards reducing your own personal carbon footprint. It is also a much more sustainable form of energy than that produced using fossil fuels (such as coal, oil and gas) and provides an inexhaustible, clean, safe supply of heat.
Although the green argument is a compelling one, it is not the only good reason to switch to solar energy. In fact, it is one of the best financial decisions you can make. By installing solar panels you will save money on electricity bills, protect yourself from rising energy costs and earn additional money for producing green electricity.
Although it is likely that there will soon be a reduction to the introductory Feed-in Tariff (the amount paid to the consumer for generating green electricity) even the proposed new figures will still give you a decent return on your investment of around 10% – far higher than is currently offered by the average savings account. What’s more, for domestic customers, the payment you receive is tax-free, will rise with inflation and is guaranteed for 25 years. Added to that, the price of solar panels has fallen significantly, making it a good time to make that initial investment.
