Case Studies
The Wingate Family
Sarah and Guy Wingate live in a converted barn on the outskirts of Darlington with their three children. As a family, they are committed to being as environmentally friendly in their lifestyle as possible and installing a Solar PV energy system is just part of doing their bit for the planet.
“We were very conscious that traditional methods of creating electricity are very damaging to the environment as burning fossil fuels releases harmful pollutants into the atmosphere. Solar energy, on the other hand, does not produce any such pollutants, so by switching to this form of electricity generation, we are helping to protect the planet for our children and future generations,” said Sarah.
The couple who had south-facing Solar PV panels installed on their roof are also hoping to create an additional income stream for their family.
“We estimate that our system should give us an additional income of £1,600 per year, with a return of 12% on our initial investment. This is a sound financial investment by anyone’s standards.
“So far we have been delighted by the results we have achieved and would recommend HBH Solar to anyone. They were thoroughly professional and we were amazed at how easy they made the whole process,” added Sarah.
The Pattisons
Retired couple, Mike and Elizabeth Pattison have a detached house in the historic market town of Richmond on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. In 2009 they installed an evacuated solar tube hot water system at their home and were so pleased with the results that in July 2011, they decided to add a 16-panel Solar PV system to their roof in order to generate electricity.
“We live in an area that is only serviced by oil as a traditional form of fuel. Oil prices are now so expensive – and set to rise even further – that we were looking for alternative and more sustainable energy sources,” said Mike.
“HBH Solar carried out the initial hot water installation and it was without hesitation that we contracted them for the second stage of the project. We have found their advice invaluable and the standard of workmanship very high.
“We have already made savings on the hot water system and the first set of results for the electricity generated by the Solar PV panels look very promising. I think this will turn out to be an excellent long-term investment,” he added.
